- <p> RESIGNED. David Baltimore, 53, Nobel-prizewinning biochemist;
- from the presiof Rockefeller University; in New York City. For
- five years Baltimore vigorously rejected charges by Margot
- O'Toole, a junior researcher at M.I.T., that the findings in a
- 1986 scientific papert Baltimore co-wrote were based on
- falsified research by immunologist Thereza Imanishi-Kari.
- O'Toole lost her job, but an investigation by the National
- Institutes of Health found this year that her charges had been
- correct. In his letter of resignation, Baltimore wrote that
- governing the university under a cloud "has taken a personal
- toll on me and my family which I can no longer tolerate."
